One of my favorite songs from one of my favorite albums from 2011 was most definately Gil Scott Heron and Jamie Smith's (XX) colab on "I'll take care of you". The song is amazing and made even more haunting by Heron's passing in the same year. So you can imagine my dismay or anybody else's who actually takes notice of music, when I was walking past the local cold rock to hear it being blasted through the shop, then to make it worse I hear some low grade cookie cutter pop sluzza singing over the top. I was pretty over it and it skipped my mind until now, cause i've heard it being flogged every time I go near some kind of commercial radio station (usually at work). I later find out it's Rihanna and Drake who were responsible for the disembowelment of the song. I then went on a rant about how dumb society is and how horrible mainstream music is and that brings me to now. So as I got told the kids love this shit and its like in the top ten. Fuck I just don't know anymore.

Cowabunga dude. Are you ready to watch the worlds best waves slashers, tear apart the gnarly waves of Manly beach? I am. Since watching the surfing on the internet, it has become the best time waster since Facebook. I have become addicted to watching the surfing which involves people paddle in circles for 25 minutes of a 30 minute heat, the other 5 minute being spent actually catching waves and then paddling back out in a straight line as opposed to a circle. If that's YOUR thing then it will be appearing live this coming week at Manly. There will also be a stage with some mainstream snooze worthy bands as well as a big fuck off bowl (above), with people who know how to skate it, really really well. Yeh heaps of echos and post dubsteppy style beats with pleasant vocals will warrant such comparisons but cant people settle with saying its good, fresh, new electronic music. All right the New Year is in full swing and we have been pretty quite on the corpse front for a minute, but were back. Starting at well, the start of the year I hit up Peat’s Ridge festival for the Third year in a row. The festival was dope fun as always. A little devastated to see there was no dubshack anymore. Anyway highlights included Mount mocha Kilimanjaro, The Bird, Hermitude, LTJ Bukam, Askills, Thundamentals and more than I can remember at this stage. Next on the agenda was festival first night with Norman Jay MBE killing it with his Goodtimes double Decker bus and Mike Patton’s Mondo Cane for free in the domain the following week. Last Friday was the first band I actually paid to see in a while, The band was the one and only Stepkids with Electric Wire Hustle on the support, This was and amazing show, with amazing visuals and mad extended psyche jams. Well worth it and a band to keep an eye on for sure. Looking into the future there is an Aphex Twin show at the Enmore in a few weeks, that shouldn’t be missed. All in all there should be some more consistent posting right here from now on. Peace

One of rotting corpses favorite record labels Warp Records has had a massive amount of its stock destroyed in a fire at the SONY/PIAS London warehouse. The label home to so many amazing acts like Flying lotus, Clark, !!!, Aphex Twin, Prefuse73, Grizzly Bear, Boards of Canada etc etc says that the majority of its extensive back catalog spanning 21 years was destroyed in the fire. Warp says they will try to replace some of the catalog but unfortunately there will be many records that will not available physically ever again.

I know. It's been out for a while and I'm finally wasting even more time on this douchey band by writing this review.

I don't know who are worse. Radiohead the band, or Radioheads fans. Either way, I'd much rather get my pubic hair plucked out one by one with blunt tweezers than endure an album of theirs in it's entirety ever again, but endure King Of Limbs i did.The result is contrived, melancholy bollocks. Radiohead are clearly a band that people that don't actually like music listen to, and I'm clearly in the minorty here because ask anyone what they think of Radiohead and they'll spout something like "Top band, Thom Yorke is a musical genius, by the way do you like how my jeans are rolled up 3/4's, and how my hair perfectly flops in my face, I'm really an individual because i do this AND listen to Radiohead you know".. Thom Torke is a musical genius is he? Get a fucking grip.

The rescheduled Sydney show takes place tonight, with the second show at the smaller Oxford Arts going down on Thursday. Punters were a little apprehensive of the show actually happening, after DOOM cancelled the remaining shows on his NZ/AUS tour following a bout of sickness in Wellington. But, Daniel Dumile has honoured his contract and all shows have been rescheduled. Limited tickets still left on the door for tonight, but you better get there REALLY FUCKING EARLY. If you miss this, you are dumb.

Jack Ladder - Cold Feet

Ladder's new house band, The Dreamlanders, also features the cream of Australian indie talent, including former Mercy Arms guitarist Kirin J Calinan, PVT drummer Laurence Pike and Triosk's Donny Benét. Hurstville was recorded over a 6 month period between a castle in Yass and small wooden shack on a farm in Windsor.

Over 40 international artists have donated music for the Nihon Kizuna compilation in aid of the Japan disaster relief effort. Nihon Kizuna, or 日本絆 in Japanese roughly translates as ‘bond of friendship with Japan’.

Following the earthquake and tsunami which devastated the northern coast and prefectures of Japan on Friday March 11th 2011, a small group of Tokyo-based artists (from Japan, Ukraine and France) and one visiting London-based journalist (from Italy) decided to pull their efforts and contacts together to do the only thing they could to help the country and its people – sell music to raise awareness of the devastation that hit the area and raise money for its people and the relief effort.

The motivation behind Nihon Kizuna was simple: in face of the feeling of helplessness many felt here in Japan in the aftermath of the earthquake and tsunami this compilation seemed like the best way to express our support and love for the country and its people. Amid widespread scaremongering and panic from the foreign media it felt only right to stand tall alongside the people of Japan who have always welcomed foreign artists and musicians with open arms and hearts.

The compilation was put together in five days thanks to the internet. Every artist and/or label on the compilation donated a track, either previously released, unreleased or created especially for the occasion. Many of the tracks, artists and labels on the compilation have a direct relation to Japan, further highlighting the connection many people outside of the country feel towards Japan in the current situation. It’s no small thing to say that many of those involved feel a kinship to the country regardless of whether or not they’ve ever lived in or visited the country.

Nihon Kizuna is released on Friday March 18th using Bandcamp as a selling platform and with payments handled via Paypal. This will be followed by a release on iTunes Japan in the week of March 21st – as many Japanese residents do not use Paypal.

The compilation will cost £10, $15, 1,500Y or 12E and there will be the possibility to donate more should people want to via Bandcamp. The compilation will be available on iTunes Japan until the end of March, while the Bandcamp page and this website will stay up for the foreseeable future.

All proceeds from the compilation will be given to the Japan Red Cross directly.

Nate Dogg Dies

According to the Long Beach Press Telegram, Nathaniel D. Hale, known in the music industry as Nate Dogg, died Tuesday, his family announced. The rap star, born and reared in Long Beach, Calif. was 41.Cause of death is not known. However, Hale had suffered two strokes, one in 2007 and another in 2008.

He started working with Bobby Jimmy & the Critters in 1984. He also produced the hit single and album for JJ Fad, “Supersonic.” Arabian Prince was of course a founding member of N.W.A. but when fellow member Ice Cube came back from the Phoenix Institute of Technology in 1988 he found himself to be surplus to the band — Eazy-E, Ice Cube and MC Ren were the main performers, DJ Yella was the turntablist and Dr. Dre was the main producer. After leaving N.W.A., Arabian Prince began his solo career. His first solo album Brother Arab was released in 1989. Arabian Prince continued his solo career and released his fourth album Where’s My Bytches in 1993, which was his last album of the 1990s. He has recently started releasing music again with his Professor X project on the Dutch label Clone records. In 2007, he performed as a DJ on the 2K Sports Holiday Bounce Tour with artists from the Stones Throw label. In 2008, Stones Throw released a compilation of his electro-rap material from the 1980s. O.N grew up in a musical family, the younger brother of hip hop artist Madlib, son of singer Otis Jackson, and nephew of jazz trumpeter Jon Faddis. After entering the scene with his group Kali Wild, OH NO went on to produce his debut The Disrupt, in 2004 following up in 2006 with the most excellent Exodus Into Unheard Rhythms, where he exclusively sampled the music of Galt MacDermot. In 2007 he released Dr. No's Oxperiment to rave reviews. The album was entirely constructed using samples of Turkish, Lebanese, Greek and Italian music, while Dr. No's Ethiopium, in 2009, was made entirely of samples of Ethiopian music.

MTV is officially resurrecting our favorite half-wit slackers. “Beavis and Butt-Head” will once again offend moral society later this year after a tragically long 14-year hiatus.

Mike Judge, the show’s creator who voiced both characters in the original series, is on board to steer the new episodes. No more details are known as yet, but I have no idea how this is going to work seeing as MTV don't even show music videos anymore.

It should be interesting to see how Beavis & Butthead react to the current state of the pop/rock market especially with the playlists on rotation at MTV.

Soundwave 2011 Sydney Venue Change

The one festival I love to hate, Soundwave, has decided to move the Sydney leg (again) to the Olympic Park site after failing to meet the deadline for improvements to Eastern Creek. The statement follows:

Eastern Creek Raceway is blessed by no noise restrictions or curfews, making it a great place to have loud rock music blasting.
Having already spent substantial time, effort and treasure to make improvements to the venue – adding major shade structures, plumbing to enable the addition of hundreds of free water taps and coming up with foolproof traffic management regime, Soundwave Festival and the venue operators have jointly decided that we would rather unveil the new Eastern Creek when even more additional improvements and renovations have been completed.
We believe that the most important person in our business is not the artist, the venue or the promoter, but the concert-goer who makes everything possible and we would rather not take the chance that we may not offer the perfect conditions.
As such this year’s event has been moved to the Sydney Showground, located at Sydney Olympic Park. All tickets are valid for the new location.
Soundwave gratefully thanks the operators of the Sydney Showground who have gone above and beyond to make this move happen on short notice.

Say what you want about the “bring a friend for free” deal that BDO concocted in a way to recoup some money from the poor ticket sales of the Sydney second show. I will say this: it was fuckin awsome! There was no one at the festival, It was only 60% full, there were no bar lines, no toilet lines, you could get close too all the bands, less bogans, less groups of people rolling 30 deep wearing the same outfits etc etc. This makes for a much more enjoyable BDO, Especially with an extra $150 in my pocket from selling my second ticket. The day started pretty slow checking out some fun from Lupe Fiasco, CSS and just hanging round in the lillypad, Things get moving mid arvo for Plan B who kills it with some slippery soul music, even breaking into a beatbox soul singing dubstep interlude which had me foaming. Next up were the geeky Glee esk looking Matt & Kim, who put on a super fun set with plenty of hip hop and Baltimore club covers in between, Then bringing it home with Yeah Yeah and daylight. I tried to watch Reggie Watts but the sound wasn’t doing him justice so it was off too check out Edward Sharp and the magnetic Zeros. Mann this blew me away, Edward sharp was killing it on arrival and didn’t let up till the end. Finishing on the jjj hit home. It was an amazing set and was one of the highlights of the day.Iggy Pop who I might refer too as the new James Brown was ripping the main stage apart. So glad I got too see this, because it surpassed all expectations I had from the man and the stooges. I cruised into a semi private show with a handful of people for Black Mill. Then Lcd soundsytem was next in the boiler room. Um well what can you say, They are one of my favourite bands and due to minimal crowds I got pretty damn close with out having to rub up against any sweaty gurners. LCD killed it as always and played all the bombs finishing with Yeah and New York I love you. On the way through i checked out Ratatat and then Tools amazing light show/projections to a half full main stage. The night for me though belonged to the one and only GRINDERMAN. Fuck this was amazing, blazing through favourite like worm tamer, heathen child, no pussy blues, palaces of Montezuma, But absolutely killing the song “kitchenette” to the stage all I’ve got in my head is TIPPE TOE TIPPE TOE, It’s hard too relax, It’s hard too relax, PUT SOME FUCKING SHOES ON YOUR FEET

There's 2 things that rub me the wrong way. 1. Most people. 2. Junkies. Now, i hear you saying, "but, a junkie is a person". Wrong. A junkie is just a giant piece of shit disguised as a human being.
Working at an Independent Record Store is badass and fairly low on the "dangerous places to work" scale, however twice in the nearly 4 years i've been at this job, i've literally feared for my life.
The first was when a junkie wandered in demanding i pay him for some totally fucked cd's that he wanted to trade in. When i told him that i couldn't accept them in the condition they were in he produced a syringe and threatened to "fuck me up", i grabbed the closest thing to a weapon i could find near me which happened to be some blunt scissors and braced myself for the shit to hit the fan. This guy, sorry, piece of shit ended up just picking up a bin on the street, threw it at a wall and wandered off in his junkie sweat to hopefully O'D.
The second time was when i was handed this note in the picture by a junkie who could have easily been Yngwie Malmsteen's twin brother minus the glorious locks of flowing hair.
This guy, sorry, piece of shit, came in to the store dressed only in a leather vest and leather pants convinced the album i was playing at the time was by a band called Deicide. It wasn't. He was adamant it was, so i again told him it wasn't. He calmly proceeded to grill me on said band and asked if I liked them. I told him i didn't. Wrong answer. He then calmly grabbed that flyer you see and wrote that lovely note on it all the while this dude seemed relaxed as fuck. Incorrect. He then hurled the pen at me, shoved this note in my chest and started screaming "666 I am the Messiah, this place is fucked" over and over at the top of his lungs for at least a minute, called me a C*%t and left. Needles to say i was left pretty shaken wondering if what the fuck just happened, actually happened.
I honestly wonder why i leave the house sometimes, although life is nothing if not an adventure.

The RC crew is back from a pretty wild summer break and we're gearing up for some big things this year. After catching the Flying Lotus/Gaslamp Killer/Dam-Funk show at The Forum last weekend, my brain still has not recovered from the sonic melting it received throughout the night. Defiantly one to remember. The video above is from the Miguel Atwood-Ferguson Ensemble concert and features a performance of "Drips/Take Notice" with Flying Lotus. (It wasn't as crazy as this but with the drummer and bassist in this video on the AUS tour with FlyLo you can imagine for yourselves.)

Now to some free shit. Just coinciding their last Australian tour, The Gorillaz have released a digital album for free which you can grab by visiting the band’s site, and signing up to the fan club. For those that are not members, you’re limited to being able only to stream the entire album (physical release of the album is scheduled for later in 2011).

The Fall, produced Damon Albarn, was recorded during the band’s 32 day autumn North American Tour and includes 15 tracks. All tracks written and performed for the album were done so by Gorillaz using the Apple iPad and and other instruments including: Korg Vocoder, Ukelele, Microkorg, Omnichord, Moog Voyager, Melodica, Guitar, Piano, Korg Monotron.

This is the part where I can gloat about how damn good Glastonbury 2010 was, "Oh yew woo hoo wank wank jizz jizz", but anyhow, even though I was there I also missed it! What? Well the 100,000 people at the main stage made it not even worth really trying to watch any of the bands, as well as way more legit bands playing on other stages (e.g The Gorillaz and the Flaming Lips on at the same time). There is also way to many amazing acts playing, making it physical impossible to see every act you want to. So tonight on ABC2 at 10pm EST we all can check out the action from the mainstage which was a solid commercial affair with the Gorillaz, Snoop Dog, Stevie Wonder etc etc. Well worth checking out what is considered one of the best music festivals in the world

Good friend and noisy next door neighbour, Sophie Lord, started a little project a year ago where she sent a bunch of Lomo disposable cameras around the world to random people and asked them to take photos of whatever. It was planned that it would take three months, but with the snail like pace of any postal service combined with the laziness of Gen Y and Gen X, the project went forever. Now, after 14 months, all the cameras have returned. The results can be found here with most of the results posted in the coming days. Also check out some of Soph's other Lomo projects here.

KYUSS Australian Tour 2011

At the beginning of this year there were these crazy people spreading rumors about the greatest band to grace my childhood doing a possible reunion tour. My response was,"There is no fucking way in hell they will." Those rumors were quickly extinguished and made my statement legit when founding member (and now Q.O.T.S.A frontman Josh Homme) expressed his thoughts on the idea:

"The offers come in all the time. They're getting more and more expensive, and more and more elaborate. The money is crazy, but I've never been tempted I don't really care about the money, I never have. That's not what Kyuss was about, so to punctuate the end of our sentence with that would be blasphemy. Kyuss fans are so fuckin' rad, they're fuckin' badass — but to me, reunions are just not necessary. It's not what it was, it's what it is, and Kyuss was a really magical thing — and if you weren't there, well, you weren't. That's just the luck of the draw. I don't feel the urge to do it for somebody who didn't have the opportunity to see us, or just didn't take the opportunity to see us. I'll let other bands alter their great legacies. Kyuss has such a great history that it would be a total error. I like that nobody saw Kyuss, and that it was largely misunderstood. That sounds like a legend forming to me. I'm too proud of it to rub my dick on it."

So when I woke last week to find out that three quarters of KYUSS are reforming for an Australian Tour next year, a giant brown nugget exploded into my Cheap Mondays.

Kyuss will be touring under the moniker Kyuss Lives! and features original Kyuss members singer John Garcia, bassist Nick Oliveri and drummer Brant Bjork and will be joined by on guitar Bruno Fevery. Oliveri was an original member of the group, though he was replaced by Scott Reeder shortly after 1992’s Blues for the Red Sun album. And you guessed it, Josh Homme will not be rubbing his dick on it.

In the most heaviest news i've heard in weeks, World Surfing champion Andy Irons has died on route to Hawaii from Puerto Rico after contracting what is believed to be Dengue Fever. To make it heavier Irons’ wife Lindie is due to give birth to their first child within weeks.

Irons began his career on the ASP World Tour in 1998. He went on to collect 20 elite tour victories, four Triple Crown of Surfing Titles and three consecutive ASP World Titles.

He was known for his powerful style, which he combined with a respectable bag of aerial manoeuvres, and was the only surfer to consistently challenge that annoying superman dude, Kelly Slater during the early 2000s.

Ok. In july "We" held another critical mass in Osnabrueck. It was still critical but not such a mass, it had rained all day till 20 minutes before the meeting time. But we still had enough people to block the traffic. Using a Canon G10 we strapped up and set the camera to take a shot every 3 seconds to make a time lapse. The camera ran out of battery just as we stopped. So Nathan Bonnici finally sent across the final and this what came out. Peace

Legendary reggae crooner Gregory Isaacs has died aged 60.

The musical ambassador behind hits like “Night Nurse” passed away at his home in London early Monday following a year-long battle against lung cancer.

Isaacs is responsible for influencing many reggae styles today such as dancehall, love rock and roots riddim. Heres a wack concept. APPARENTLY back in 2006, during a stint in the US to promote his then new movie, Sacha Baron Cohen, aka Borat, Ali G met Daniel Dumile aka MF DOOM. Their apparent mutual love of Purple Kush led to an impromptu recording of Doom’s ‘My Favorite Ladies’ verses (see Herbalisers’ Something Wicked…album) over a beat Borat had made back in ’05 with Kulki Boolchek, a Khazak producer. Later that year Doom ventured east, and recorded three more gems with Cohen at the castle of Rudolf II in Prague. Here is the product of this wack meeting. Laneway Festival 2011

One the most forward thinking (music wise) festivals of the Australian summer, that one that used to be in a laneway, released its much anticipated line-up yesterday. The line up is pretty solid on the indie front and nearly caused a small wet patch at the front of my cheap mondays. The picks being: Ariel Pink’s Haunted Graffiti, !!!. Deerhunter, Beach house, Blonde Redhead, PVT and Les Savy Fav.

Damn there goes another 150 big ones.

I camera phoned this photo a few months back at uni and i don't know if my mind is fucked (probably) or subconsciously i'm always thinking about shlongs (yes a little worrying).

BUT at what stage in developing a logo does this not look like a little stumpy cock and balls. All it needs is a little slit on the end and a few pubes and it is one. Next time i see this truck it's going to be seriously tempting to finish this image off, so it gets the cock and balls recognition it deserves.
