Amon Tobin x Vivid Live 2012

Vivid live recently released its 2012 line-up. Although there are plenty of relatively exciting acts like: Karen O, Sufjan Stevans and Zola Jesus the main drawcard for any Ninja Tunes Geek like me is the Amon Tobin ISAM 3D show. I've watched the clips on youtube and have been frothing for months about this, and here it is. Im not going to bother explaining it because the clip above does that well enough. Tickets on sale Thursday the 22nd From the Opera House website.

L.A. Woman 2012 - Kenny Anderson, Alex Olson, Braydon Szafranski

A mate of mine sent me this today where skateboarders Kenny Anderson, Alex Olson, and Braydon Szafranski take viewers on a "Doors-centric" skateboarding tour of Los Angeles. It's pretty fucken rad but there has already been a bunch of internet fucks complaing about how 'L.A Woman' has nothing to do with skateboarding. Which is correct. It's totally fucking obvious if you actually watched the video. This is for those who like to smoke a bowl, before shredding a bowl.

Playground Weekender 2012 refunds.

The fall out over the Playground Weekender's festival cancellation gets even stickier, as news of the festival's mounting debt emerge and as ticket refunds get even more complicated.

Promoter Andy Rigby released this statement. “This is an absolutely devastating situation,” he says, “one that we are still struggling to comprehend. There has been a number of rumours circulating over the last few days and we want to be as up front and honest as possible, whilst at the same time exploring all avenues to give you the most accurate information and best possible outcome. Unfortunately this has taken a little while and I’m not sure there is a positive end in sight.”

Here’s the full statement:

The organisers (Playground Festivals Pty Ltd) behind the Playground Weekender, Australia’s best-loved boutique festival – would like to be as transparent as possible regarding the refund process for ticketholders following the cancellation of the festival which was due to take place at Wiseman’s Ferry NSW, on March 2nd – 4th 2012.

Since the four gigs were held at the Beach Road Hotel, Metro Theatre and the UNSW to replace festivities at the Del Rio Riverside Resort, the promoters have been trying to recover as much of the money that had been spent on setting up the festival as possible. The organisers would still like to try and offer refunds to all ticket holders but are keen to manage people’s expectations in that this will be a difficult and lengthy process given the rate of progress so far.

With 36 hours until the event was due to go ahead, people had bought tickets, the festival site was booked, the stages had been built, the toilets were plumbed, the tents were up and the power was on. In addition, the artists had been paid for, flown in and were checked in to their hotels. Then the flood warnings came. In excess of $1M had been spent before the festival had even commenced and was sadly, not covered for natural disasters.

Six years of significant financial outlay, time, effort and love has been ploughed in to the event – and having written off more than $1.5 in investment and loans to the previous company to give the festival a stable future, a natural disaster is not something a small business such as Playground Festivals Pty Ltd, has been able to cope with.

What this means for ticket holders:
PayPal: We have been looking at ways to proceed to achieve a positive outcome. If the ticket holder is protected under PayPal’s Buyer Protection policy, then we understand that the ticket holder has 45 days from the date of the transaction to file a “dispute” online with PayPal.
In order to be protected under the PayPal Buyer Protection policy, amongst other things, the payment must be made through a PayPal account (and not directly from a credit card processed through PayPal website’s Payments Pro or Virtual Terminal service). We understand PayPal’s Buyer Protection policy only extends to tangible goods, electronic tickets delivered by email are not tangible goods. However, under the Buyer Protection Policy PayPal may in its discretion cover electronic tickets that have been physically printed and shipped.
In any event, we suggest that ticketholders contact PayPal now to formally advise PayPal the cancellation of the festival and file a “dispute” if they are eligible.
Credit cards: Ticket holders who paid by credit card directly should also contact their bank or credit card provider to lodge a dispute that they have not received what they have paid for. A refund may be available under the relevant credit card policies.
GreenTix: refunded those who paid by Credit Card on Friday 9th March.

Salmon Walkshorts. The New Black.

I must have sold about 10 million tickets to Future Music to not quite buffed but trying super hard by wearing clothes that would barely fit an infant bellends in the weeks leading up to said festival. But one common trend I did notice, (other than the only ink on their bodies were some illegible name written in shitty script on their neck) and maybe it's the hater in me, or maybe it's because while I was selling tickets to these assholes one of them lifted a shitload (and by shitload I mean in the hundreds of dollars worth, while some fucktard got in my face and gave me attitude because I needed to take his name for the ticket he wanted. Dickhead) of amazing hip-hop vinyl from the shop that my keen sense of awareness became heightened was that they all were wearing the exact same shorts. Exact. Same. Shorts. Not even proper Dickies length shorts. Short Salmon coloured shorts, leading me to believe that these people were not the brainless Homosapians they were posing as but were in fact Lemmings. Not the made up computer game characters we all know and love that are able to work together by using actual brainpower and problem solving skills, but actual Lemmings. See the cute picture attatched if you're not sure what I am talking about. Not quite as harmless as we all thought eh? Take my word for it, The Lemmings are taking over and we are all fucking doomed. So next time you are at a Skrillex show in your Napalm Death cut-off and cargo shorts and all of a sudden notice you are surrounded by trendy Henley's low cut singlets, salmon coloured walkshorts and COUNTLESS boatshoes, just know that your time is coming to an end.

Wim Delvoye X MONA

Wim Delvoye the man responsible for so much strange and shocking (to some) art, sculptures and installations. Famous for his Art farm, where he keeps pigs in pig heaven (air conditioning, mad food Etc) tattoos them and then kills them to sell their skin as art. He is also known for his machine "cloaca" which basically reproduces the human digestive system, and provides Realistic machine Nards that can then be sold to willing buyers. Anyway the man is a mad scientist and has an exhibition at Mona in Hobart with more than 100 pieces. I know it's a little far from old Sydney town, But well worth it. Oh and if you don't know much about MONA check it out alone with more Info on the exhibition here

Low grade pop sluzzas

One of my favorite songs from one of my favorite albums from 2011 was most definately Gil Scott Heron and Jamie Smith's (XX) colab on "I'll take care of you". The song is amazing and made even more haunting by Heron's passing in the same year. So you can imagine my dismay or anybody else's who actually takes notice of music, when I was walking past the local cold rock to hear it being blasted through the shop, then to make it worse I hear some low grade cookie cutter pop sluzza singing over the top. I was pretty over it and it skipped my mind until now, cause i've heard it being flogged every time I go near some kind of commercial radio station (usually at work). I later find out it's Rihanna and Drake who were responsible for the disembowelment of the song. I then went on a rant about how dumb society is and how horrible mainstream music is and that brings me to now. So as I got told the kids love this shit and its like in the top ten. Fuck I just don't know anymore.

Australian Open of Surfing

Cowabunga dude. Are you ready to watch the worlds best waves slashers, tear apart the gnarly waves of Manly beach? I am. Since watching the surfing on the internet, it has become the best time waster since Facebook. I have become addicted to watching the surfing which involves people paddle in circles for 25 minutes of a 30 minute heat, the other 5 minute being spent actually catching waves and then paddling back out in a straight line as opposed to a circle. If that's YOUR thing then it will be appearing live this coming week at Manly. There will also be a stage with some mainstream snooze worthy bands as well as a big fuck off bowl (above), with people who know how to skate it, really really well. So hit it up February 11th to the 19th, with all the good stuff happening on the last weekend. More info HERE
